NORTH SUMATRA suspected of experiencing hypothermia, a climber from Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, with the initials YK aged 21 years was found dead in the Mount Arjuno area, in Batu City, East Java, Sunday, August 20.

Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Batu Agung Sedayu City in Batu City, said that the climber was suspected of having hypothermia or a condition where the body temperature was under normal conditions.

Agung explained that the victim was found dead in the Pos 2 Batu Besar area, on the Mount Arjuno hiking trail through Sumber Brantas in the Bumiaji District area. The victim was found at around 10:38 WIB.

Joint personnel then carried out evacuation efforts for victims to Bhayangkara Hatsa Brata Hospital, Batu City. The evacuation was carried out by joint personnel from UPT Tahura Raden Soerjo, BPBD Kota Batu and a number of related agencies including volunteers.

"The efforts made were to evacuate the victim to the hospital, the conditions were foggy," he said.

He added that climbers who will climb, especially to Mount Arjuno, are encouraged to make preparations for a mature climb and maintain their health condition.
