Centered In Pacitan, The 5.0 Magnitude Earthquake In East Java Has No Tsunami Potential

JAKARTA - The earthquake rocked the central and eastern parts of Central Java on Saturday morning, August 19. The 5.0 magnitude earthquake, centered in Pacitan, East Java, was reported to have no potential for a tsunami.

Citing information from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, the earthquake occurred on Saturday morning at 00:99 WIB located at 8.99 south latitude, 111.06 east longitude or about 90 kilometers southwest of Pacitan, East Java.

The 5.0 magnitude earthquake was centered in the sea with a depth of only 10 kilometers, or in the category of shallow earthquakes.

Gempa dirasakan dengan kekuatan (MMI) III atau lemah di wilayah Pacitan tanpa ada potensi kerusakan, MMI II atau lebih lemah di wilayah Gunungkidul, Bantul, dan Yogyakarta.
