JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has paralyzed two Malaysian-flagged vessels suspected of carrying out illegal fishing in the Government Fisheries Management Area of the Republic of Indonesia (WPPNRI) 517 waters of the Malacca Strait.

Two vessels caught in the patrol of the Marine and Fisheries Supervisory Vessel (KP) HIU 01 are the SLFA 3763 Motor Ship (KM) and KM PKFA 7541, both of which were arrested while fishing illegally using prohibited fishing gear.

"It is suspected that the two ships used prohibited fishing gear in the form of trawler nets that were very destructive," said Director General of Marine and Fishery Resources (PSDKP) Adin Nurawaluddin as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, August 18.

When examined by officers, the two ships were known to carry 1.4 tons of fish mixed.

The ship was manned by Indonesian citizens, with a total of eight crew members (ABK) who had been secured by officers including their captain.

The two ships were then escorted to the Dumai SDKP Supervision Unit (Satwas) for further inspection, and the case files were transferred to the crew and evidence of the case from the Shark 01 Supervisory Ship (KP) captain to the Dumai SDKP Supervisory Unit Civil Servant Investigator team.

This effort is a form of commitment from the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, in taking firm action against illegal fishing perpetrators so that Indonesian marine and fishery resources can be maintained and sustainable.
