JAYAPURA- PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) broke a world record from the Guinness World Records (GWR) in the unfurling of the Red and White Flag with a size of 3,431.25 square meters in the Grasberg open pit mine area from the previous 2,742,434 square meters.

President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia (PT FI) Tony Wenas in a press release received by ANTARA in Jayapura, Thursday, August 17 said that the unfurling of the Red and White Flag measuring 3,431.25 square meters in the Grasberg open pit mine area at an altitude of 4,285 meters above sea level is a part of a series of celebrations for the 78th Anniversary of Republic of Indonesia's Independence conducted by PT FI.

"The unfurling of this flag illustrates our enthusiasm in celebrating the 78th Indonesian Independence Day, our passion is one to give the best for a developed Indonesia," he said.

According to Wenas, the collaboration and cohesiveness of team members in overcoming various challenges when carrying out the flag-laying had a major role in achieving the success of breaking this world record.

"This is a reaffirmation of PT FI's dedication to the country and this spirit will lead us to continue to be dedicated, to work together, to contribute positively to the community and the surrounding environment," he said.

He explained that the unfurling of the Red and White Flag has been carried out since August 14, 2023 at the highest location in the Grasberg open pit mine area which has been operated by PT FI since 1991 and the mining will be completed in 2020.

He added that previously PT FI had won the MURI Record in 2022 for music performances which were held at the deepest location of 1,220 meters below ground level which is located in the Grasberg Block Caving (GBC) area of ​​PT FI's underground mine.

The unfurling of the Red and White Flag was closed with the "KITA SATU" Music Concert which also won the MURI Record as the highest music concert in Indonesia which was held in Freeport Indonesia's Grasberg mine area at an altitude of 4,285 meters above sea level.
