YOGYAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) will immediately seek to build bore wells in a number of areas affected by drought.

DIY BPBD Operations Control Center (Pusdalops) Manager Lilik Andi Aryanto said the drilling well was coordinated with the DIY Public Works, Housing and Energy Office.

"In the near future we will invite the PUPESDMDIY Office back to ensure the construction of the bore wells," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, August 11.

Gunungkidul Regency is one of the targets for drilling wells considering that currently the district has set a drought emergency alert status.

Apart from Gunungkidul Regency, said Lilik, Bantul Regency has also established the same disaster status.

"A number of business institutions will also confirm that they will help drill wells, which we will also coordinate with the PUPESDMDIY Office in the same location," he said.

According to him, this year's dry season is estimated to be drier than in previous years, so the availability of clean water tanks needs to be strengthened with the support of APBD funds in 2023.

However, as many as 11 sub-districts in Gunungkidul that were hit by drought were able to distribute clean water independently.

"With difficult conditions for water, people in Gunungkidul are advised to be more frugal in managing water," he said.

The Head of BPBD Gunungkidul Purwono said that currently there are 28 thousand residents who have the potential to be affected by drought spread across eight sub-districts.

"So far, four sub-districts have applied for clean water distribution. The potential for drought can also be widespread when referring to the predictions of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG)," he said.
