It's Just A Declaration, PKS Approves Anies-AHY Duet In The 2024 Presidential Election

JAKARTA - President of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) Ahmad Syaikhu gave a signal agreeing to the duet between Anies Baswedan and Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) as a pair of presidential and vice presidential candidates (candidates) in the 2024 presidential election.

According to him, AHY is a person who already has a lot of experience. Meanwhile, AHY from a dozen years in the military world has entered politics as a candidate for governor of DKI Jakarta 2017 and is currently chairman of the Democratic Party.

"AHY, as I said, is a figure who has been left with various experiences and this makes him more mature, so God willing, we are also optimistic about his life journey," he said after the launch of the book "Tetralogy Transformation AHY" at Djakarta Theater, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, August 10 evening.

Nevertheless, PKS has mandated Anies to determine the presidential candidate for his assistant in the 2024 presidential election. A total of two other political parties supporting Anies, namely NasDem and Democrats, also submitted the final decision to determine the vice presidential candidate to Anies.

The three parties supporting Anies' presidential election, he said, only provided input in determining the vice presidential candidate.

For this reason, he also stated that he did not know when Anies' vice presidential candidate would be announced.

"Pak Anies will give a statement on when it will be decided [the vice presidential candidate for his assistant in the 2024 presidential election]. We are just waiting for the official declaration," he said.

Syaikhu is optimistic that Anies will choose the best vice presidential candidate to win the 2024 presidential election.

"We also see Mr. Anies being a mature person. When we announce who he is, I think we fully entrust him to Mr. Anies," he said.

Based on the schedule set by the General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia, the registration of prospective presidential and vice presidential candidates is scheduled to start from October 19 to November 25, 2023.

As regulated in Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections (UU Pemilu), pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates are proposed by political parties or coalitions of political parties participating in the election who meet the requirements for obtaining seats of at least 20 percent of the total number of seats in the DPR or obtaining 25 percent of valid votes nationally in the previous election for members of the DPR.

Currently, there are 575 seats in parliament so that the presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs in the 2024 presidential election must have at least 115 seats in the DPR RI.

In addition, candidate pairs can be promoted by political parties or a combination of political parties participating in the 2019 Election with a total valid votes of at least 34,992,703 votes.
