CILACAP - The dry season that regularly hits Sea Village, Cilacap Regency, is no longer a scourge for residents such as Warisem (32) after Ganjar Pranowo opened the Gandrungmangu Cilacap Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM).

Whereas every time the dry season arrives, this area is used to experiencing severe drought, forcing its citizens, including Warisem, to buy clean water at a high price, reaching IDR 7,000 per jerry can.

However, this year is a different story. Residents of Kampung Laut no longer feel worried about the dry season. This is thanks to the establishment of SPAM Gandrungmangu by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR). SPAM with a capacity of 100 liters per second was officially inaugurated by the Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, on Thursday, August 10, 2023.

"A great freedom, we no longer need to buy water during the dry season. Now, water flows in our house with clearer and fresher quality," said Warisem full of joy.

Previously, Warisem was forced to buy water for daily needs at high prices, a thing that was also experienced by many other residents. The price of water which reaches Rp7,000 per jerry can is very burdensome and creates difficulties for many families.

Just like Warisem, Sumini (40), another resident of Kampung Laut District, also felt the benefits of SPAM Gandrungmangu. For years, Sumini has always faced difficulties in getting clean water when the dry season arrives.

"Alhamdulillah, we no longer need to buy water. Reportedly, water is still provided free of charge. Even if later there is a fee, it will definitely be more affordable than buying water outside. The water quality is also better, which of course is better for our health," said Sumini.

The Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, was present in person to inaugurate the operation of SPAM Gandrungmangu Cilacap. Accompanied by the Temporary Official of the Regent of Cilacap and several officials from the Ministry of PUPR, Ganjar symbolically opened the water tap as a sign of inauguration.

"Our supply continues in ensuring the supply of clean water. Thank you to the Ministry of PUPR for the assistance provided, as well as the PDAM that distributed this water to the community. Finally, the community can get a good supply of clean water," said Ganjar with pride.

Ganjar emphasized that areas such as Kampung Laut still experience problems in terms of clean water supply, especially during the dry season. For decades, residents are used to dealing with clean water difficulties, especially at high prices.

"Today is a happy day, because after decades of struggling, residents finally get a solution for clean water difficulties. With a large enough capacity, the water supply in the dry season as it is now has been guaranteed. Residents can now open the tap in their respective homes," he explained.

Ganjar hopes that the community will properly maintain the SPAM Gandrungmangu facility. He also wants that with the adequacy of clean water supply, a healthy lifestyle must be a priority.

"With the availability of sufficient clean water, we hope that the community will also maintain a healthy lifestyle. We are no longer allowed to throw garbage carelessly in the river, and we must work together to keep the environment clean," concluded Ganjar Pranowo with enthusiasm.
