PAPUA - Regional Military Command (Kodam) XVI Pattimura destroyed as many as 723 units of firearms assembled from the Maluku conflict collected from residents.

"The Pamrahwan Task Force in the Maluku and North Maluku regions has won the hearts of the people so that people have the awareness to hand over various homemade weapons that they store for a certain purpose," said Pangdam XVI/Pattimura Maj. The Military Commander said this was due to dialogueal social communication and a persuasive approach in carrying out tasks by the XVI/Pattimura Military Command Soldiers to residents.

Accompanied by Forkopimda, the Military Commander detailed that the 723 homemade firearms included 514 long-barreled weapons and 209 short-barreled weapons.

"The destruction was carried out symbolically by cutting firearms using a cutting machine," said the Pangdam.

According to him, this extermination was intended as a preventive measure so that the firearms were not misused by irresponsible parties.

Therefore, he appealed to the people of Maluku and North Maluku who still hold firearms to immediately hand them over to the competent authorities.

"If possible, there are still firearms, both assembled and organic, in order to hand them over to the authorities. Let's create a conducive situation, so that we live safely, peacefully and prosperously," said the Pangdam.

In addition, Kodam XVI/Pattimura also gave appreciation and motivation to soldiers who managed to obtain illegal factory and homemade standard firearms.

"This can be a motivation for Soldiers to always do their best and provide protection, protection and services to the community," he said.
