Vice President Ensures Hajj Implementation Is Evaluated Every Year

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin ensured that the implementation of the pilgrimage would be evaluated every year to perfect the shortcomings that occurred.

"Hajj problems every year there is always an evaluation. Now what is not good, which must be perfected, there is always an evaluation," said the Vice President in a press statement after witnessing the inauguration of the East Kalimantan Regional Economic and Financial Committee (KDEKS), in Samarinda reported by ANTARA, Friday, August 4.

The Vice President's statement addressed the question of the number of pilgrims who died in the Holy Land, which was 772 people, and was the highest number since 2015.

The vice president said that the number of pilgrims who died was caused by several factors, one of which was the number of elderly pilgrims.

"Well, this year there are indeed problems that need to get more serious (care), many have died, that's because first of course there are many elderly pilgrims," he said.

The second factor, said the Vice President, is the weather in Saudi Arabia which is in heat during the pilgrimage.

While the third factor is the lack of readiness in dealing with the number of elderly and hot weather pilgrims.

"The third factor in dealing with these two things (most of the elderly and hot weather) is not prepared for anticipation, including perhaps the rules in Saudi, synchronizing the rules against the elderly and hot weather, there must be anticipatory steps," he said.

According to the Vice President, these factors need to be evaluated as an anticipatory step for organizing Hajj in the coming years to be carried out better.

"In addition to what is evaluated this year, next year something must be anticipated that will certainly happen," he said.

In addition, continued the Vice President, various other challenges and problems that may occur in the implementation of the upcoming Hajj must also be inventoried and alternative solutions are found.

"We don't know what the problem is, the problems we are facing are anticipated. So responding to yesterday's shortcomings and also future challenges are not necessarily the same, it could be different. We have to prepare that, in order to evaluate it must be as perfect as possible (and) as optimally as possible," he said.
