The Batang Police Chief, Central Java, revealed a case of alleged sexual harassment by a lecturer at the Tumbrep Islamic Boarding School with the initials N (53), a resident of Bandar District, against four female students.
"Currently there are four students who have reported the case to the police. We have also arrested the suspect," said Batang Police Chief AKBP Saufi Salamun in Batang, Antara, Monday, July 31.
In his modus operandi, the suspect pretended to want to treat the students who were sick.
However, during the treatment process, the suspect tried to hold sensitive parts of the female students on the pretext that the victim's illness quickly recovered.
The police chief said the case carried out by the suspect began in 2020 and was revealed after four female students reported to their parents on July 27, 2023, then reported to the Batang Police.
"Currently, we are still handling the harassment case. For now, there are still four victims who report it, but it could also increase," he said.
Accompanied by the Head of the Batang Police Detective and Criminal Unit, AKP Andi Fajar, he said his party had asked for information from a number of witnesses regarding the alleged abuse case.
The suspect will be subject to Article 82 of Law No. 17 of 2016 concerning Stipulation of Regulation in Lieu of Law No.1 of 2016 concerning the Second Amendment to Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection with a maximum penalty of 15 years.
