The investigation team for the Women and Children Protection Unit of the Makassar Police is still investigating the alleged child abuse case by the suspect with the initials M, who got emotional while playing chess at a coffee shop in Makassar, South Sulawesi.
"Because it has been officially reported to the Makassar Police, the Satreskrim through the PPA will immediately conduct an investigation. The next process is looking for evidence," said Head of the Public Relations Section of the Makassar Polrestabes Kompol Lando K. Sambolangi in Makassar, Antara, Sunday, July 30.
From the chronology of the incident that was caught on surveillance cameras (CCTV) and went viral on social media, Lando said, the alleged case of violence against children occurred on Friday night.
It appears that a small child spontaneously took the reported chess piece while playing, then the alleged emotions and immediately hit the back of the victim's head.
At that time the victim immediately fell to the floor and his lips were injured. The alleged perpetrator M also shouted at the victim several times until he was traumatized.
After the incident, the victim's family was known to have the coffee shop owner disbanded the chess game.
Feeling disapproved of the treatment of a retired health office employee and now working as Deputy Director of the Makassar Happy General Hospital, the victim's family reported the case to the police station.
Confirmed separately, the legal consultant for the Bahagia Makassar General Hospital Muhammad Fakhruddin confirmed that the suspect M was a local hospital employee and had only worked for four months. However, the alleged behavior has nothing to do with the hospital.
"Oknum diduga penganiayaan anak di bawah umur yang viral benar karyawan Rumah Sakit Bahagia Makassar. Bahwa tindakan tersebut adalah tindakan pribadi dan tidak berhubungannya dengan rumah sakit apa pun jabatannya, apalagi kejadian terjadi di luar rumah sakit dan di luar jam dinas," katanya.
He regretted that incident and should be as a doctor, he should not have done this because whatever the reason for M's actions was against the law.
"It is true, the deputy director, worked for approximately four months. He is a retiree (Health Office) and the position at this hospital is a structural position. Regarding the actions of hospital management, God willing, on Monday a meeting will be held to take action on this case. Of course we regret that incident," he added.
Previously, PPA reported that based on the latest data, there were 328 cases of violence against women and children, with around 80 percent of that number dominated by cases of violence against children.
This figure increased from 2022 with cases handled by the Makassar Police as many as 232 cases, but only 120 cases were completed. Then, there were 161 cases of domestic violence and 132 cases were completed.
