KEDIRI - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Operational Area 7 Madiun, East Java, revealed that a number of train trips were disrupted due to the incident of the Gajayana train, Gambir - Malang relation, which had been hit by a truck loaded with sugar cane grounds between Baron - Kertosono station, Monday morning.

Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Daop 7 Madiun Supriyanto said several train trips experienced delays, namely KA Jayakarta Pasarsenen - Surabaya Gubeng connection was 59 minutes late, KA Mutiara Selatan Bandung - Surabaya Gubeng connection was recorded 29 minutes.

"KA Bangunkarta's relationship with Jombang - Gambir was also 28 minutes late due to the incident," he said when confirmed by ANTARA, Monday, July 24.

KA Gajayana, the Gambir - Malang relationship, was passing at the crossing, which was not maintained at number 89 KM 101 + 5. At that time, there was a gandeng truck loaded with sugarcane ramps that was desperate to pass, so that it grazed the Gajayana train that was passing.

The driver had already rang the locomotive bell many times when he was about to pass, but the vehicle still passed and did not respond, so it grazed the Gajayana train.

"At that time, the speed had also been reduced, because they were about to enter the station. The driver had already ringed the locomotive bell many times when he was about to pass, but the vehicle continued to pass and did not respond," he said.

As a result of the incident, the front locomotive was damaged. A number of glasses were also broken. In fact, with this incident, the damaged gajayana train locomotive could not continue the journey, so the Gajayana train was evacuated to Kertosono Station at 05.27 WIB using an auxiliary locomotive.

"After an examination by the facility team, it was declared safe that the Gajayana train resumed its journey at 06.16 WIB with a slowdown of 116 minutes," he said.

He also said that the cargo cane material from the truck also covered the railroad tracks. Approximately 85 minutes, the lane cannot be passed temporarily. The railway line can then be passed again at 5.37 WIB.

PT KAI, he said, would take legal action and demand for compensation to the company and the driver of the cooperating truck.

His party is still calculating the losses as a result of the incident. The front carriage was badly damaged.

He also said that PT KAI apologized for the delay in the incident.

"KAI apologizes to all train customers for the delay in train travel. Currently, KAI is trying its best to clean the train lane, so it is safe to pass and train travel returns to normal," said Supriyanto.

Regarding the fatalities, he said that in this disaster there were no casualties, both passengers and drivers. Everything is in good condition and not injured.

He also appealed to the public to use vehicles that pass at railroad crossings to always be careful. In accordance with Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation Article 114, road users are required to prioritize trains and give the main rights to vehicles that first cross the tracks.

"With the orderly rules of road users and the optimal role of all stakeholders, it is hoped that safety at level crossings can be realized. So that train travel is not disrupted and road users also safely arrive at their destination," said Supriyanto.
