Central Java Statistics Agency said the inequality of population income in Central Java under the Ganjar Pranowo administration was categorized as low. This can be seen from the latest BPS data released on July 17, 2023.

Head of Central Java BPS Dadang Hardiwan said the Gini ratio for Central Java in March 2023 was 0.369, an increase of 0.003 compared to the Gini ratio in September 2022.

Dadang said that the ratio in urban areas tends to increase from 0.392 in September 2022 to 0.399 in March 2023.

Meanwhile, the Gini ratio in rural areas tends to decrease, from 0.326 in September 2022 to 0.318 in March 2023.

"This provides an illustration that the level of income gap in rural areas tends to be lower when compared to the level of income gap in urban areas," Dadang said in an official statement.

Dadang also conveyed that it was related to revenue distribution according to the World Bank. In addition to the Gini ratio, the indicator that can be used to measure the level of population inequality in an area is revenue distribution according to the World Bank.

Based on data in March 2023, Central Java recorded a percentage of revenue received by the lowest 40 percent population of 18.74 percent.

"This means that income inequality in Central Java is low inequality. So this low inequality is if the percentage of income for the lowest group is greater than 17 percent," said Dadang.

Then, Dadang conveyed that the percentage of income received by 40% of the population in urban areas was 17.35 percent or still classified as low inequality.

"Likewise, for rural areas, 20.85 percent is also still in the category of low inequality," he said.

BPS data also stated that the number of poor people in Central Java in March 2023 was 3.79 million people, a decrease of 66.73 thousand people when compared to the conditions in September 2022 and a decrease of 39.94 thousand people when compared to March 2022.

"The percentage of poor people in March 2023 was 10.77 percent, down 0.21 percent, the same as the national decline in September 2022 and down 0.16 percentage points against March 2022," said Dadang.
