The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of the Minangkabau Meteorological Station, Padang Pariaman, explained the cause of the high intensity of rainfall that occurred from Thursday (13/7) night to Friday morning that occurred in the West Sumatra (West Sumatra) region.

"The rain that occurs is more due to a pattern of disturbances called convergence that extends from the Mentawai Islands towards the Natuna Islands," said the Coordinator for Observation and Information at the Minangkabau Meteorological Station Yudha Nugraha in Padang as reported by ANTARA, Friday, July 14.

Yudha explained that the convergence in question is the airflow meeting area that comes from the direction of the Indian Ocean (northern and south) which then gathers and extends from the Mentawai Islands to the Natuna Islands.

"So, that's what causes the rain to occur in central Sumatra," he explained.

Yudha said the pattern of disturbances had a large scale and was accompanied by a long enough duration, resulting in high rainfall intensity in West Sumatra Province.

If you look at the data collected, BMKG estimates that the pattern or peak of rainfall is expected to occur today. However, for the next two to three days the rain is estimated to still occur but the intensity has decreased.

For the city of Padang, the intensity of moderate rainfall in the category is expected to continue until Friday morning at 10.00 WIB. However, in general, the collection of clouds above the coast of West Sumatra has begun to decrease.

Meanwhile, a resident of Maransi Indah, Dadok Tunggul Hitam, Padang City, Doli said heavy rains had flushed the area since Thursday night. In fact, at some points, the water level has reached about one meter.

In addition, he continued, the electricity around Maransi Indah, Dadok Tunggul Hitam has also been out since 07.00 WIB. Residents hope that the government will immediately take rescue steps, especially for vulnerable groups such as the elderly (elderly).
