MEULABOH - A wild elephant was reported to have damaged a community's oil palm plantation in Canggai Village, Pante Ceureumen District, West Aceh Regency.

"The number of damaged palm oil trees is not yet known, because it is still being recorded," said Pante Ceureumen sub-district head, West Aceh Regency, Zulkarnain, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 13.

Zulkarnain said that in this incident there were no casualties in the local community, because the wildlife acted at night.

According to him, disturbances from wild elephants in Pante Ceureumen District, West Aceh Regency often occur throughout the year, resulting in damage to farmers' gardens.

Although they often get treatment from related parties such as BKSDA, the disturbance of wild elephants in the area continues to occur, and causes losses to the community.

Zulkarnain said the problem of disturbances by wild elephants in his area had been a concern from the government in the sub-district, considering the impacts caused by the people in the area.

"Throughout the year there must have been disturbances of wild elephants in the community gardens, this has caused unrest for farmers," he said.

He hopes that this issue will become a special concern from related parties, so that disturbances to wild elephants in the interior of West Aceh will immediately get better and more permanent treatment.
