Heavy Rain Triggers Landslides In A Number Of Trenggalek Areas

TRENGGALEK - Heavy rains that flushed for most of the day triggered landslides in a number of areas of Trenggalek Regency, East Java.

According to official information from BPBD Trenggalek, landslides were reported to have occurred on the JLS route of Tasikmadu Village, Watulimo District.

Landslides also occurred in the Munjungan sub-district, causing damage to residents' houses.

"The landslide at JLS occurred at 07.30 WIB. Cliff at that point, to be precise, the road for Pasir Putih Karanggongso landslides and half of the road was closed," said BPBD Chief Executive Julii Atmono as reported by ANTARA, Friday, July 7.

At the time of the incident, no vehicles passed so that they did not cause any casualties.

After the landslide, joint officers immediately inspected the location and closed half of the landslide road.

Apart from not being able to pass due to piles of landslide material, the closure of the half of the road was carried out in line with the rainfall that was still pouring down, so it was feared that there would be further landslides.

"At that time for the weather, Watulimo District had light-medium rain," he said.

The landslide was triggered by unstable cliff conditions due to moderate to high intensity rain that flushed the Watulimo District since Thursday (6/7) at 16.00 WIB until 06.00 WIB.

Apart from Watulimo, landslides also occurred in the Masaran Village area, Munjungan District. The landslide caused the walls of a resident's house to burst.

The wall of the resident's house burst after being hit by landslide material from a seven-meter high cliff behind his house.

There were no casualties in the incident, but for the time being the occupants of the house were displaced at their relatives' place because it was feared that there would be another landslide following the frequent rainfall.

BPBD Trenggalek appealed to the public to always be vigilant, especially when there is heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds.

Referring to the BMKG report of the Class I Meteorological Station Juanda Sidoarjo, several areas including Trenggalek have the potential to be affected by hydrometeorological disasters due to extreme weather due to atmospheric disturbances in the East Java (East Java) region.

"People are advised to remain vigilant against potential impacts of hydrometeorological disasters, including landslides to floods," he said.
