Water Crisis Due To Drought, Jember Regency Government Builds 10 Drilling Wells

JEMBER - The government of Jember Regency, East Java built 10 bore wells in a number of sub-districts as a solution to overcome drought in the local area.

"This year we will add 10 bore wells, including the installation in the 2023 Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget Change," said Jember Regent Hendy Siswanto as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 5.

According to him, the two drill wells currently not optimal because some residents are still experiencing a clean water crisis, so there needs to be additional drill wells because it is predicted that the long dry season will occur from August to October.

"Based on the data we received, as many as 32 villages spread across 15 sub-districts in Jember have the potential to be drought-prone during the dry season, so this must be anticipated early on," he said.

To overcome the clean water crisis, he continued, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Social Service, and the Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM) Tirta Pandalungan provided clean water tubs and distributed water to several droughtted areas.

Several villages that fall into the drought-prone category are spread across several sub-districts including Patrang District, Jelbuk District, Bangsalsari District, Tanggul District, Sumbersari District, Tempurejo District and Pakusari District.

Previously, the Jember BPBD installed clean water installations and distributed a number of water reservoirs to residents to anticipate drought and the clean water crisis in Bintoro Village, Patrang District.

Clean water will be distributed to residents who experience drought during the dry season and BPBD Jember will continue to monitor a number of areas experiencing difficulty getting clean water.

Head of Logistics and Emergency Division of BPBD Jember Panta Satria said his party distributed 20 liter capacity jerry cans to 103 families who experienced drought in Bintoro Village.
