New Capital City IKN Becomes a Pioneer in the Application of the Green Energy Concept

BALIKPAPAN - Secretary of the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) Achmad Jaka Santos Adiwijaya emphasized that IKN is ready to pioneer the city of zero carbon in Indonesia by building a city energy infrastructure that is compatible with the implementation of the green energy concept.

"To achieve this goal, the IKN Authority formulates a comprehensive plan, which includes several strategies, including the construction of solar power plants, as well as the use of low carbon gas energy to substitute fossil energy," he said at the 2023 National Capacity Forum for the Kalimantan and Sulawesi (Kalsul) areas held in Balikpapan, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 5.

Jaka said the transition to IKN green energy does not only contribute to environmental sustainability but also triggers innovation in the clean energy sector.

The government also affirms its commitment to ensuring a fair and inclusive transition, focusing on creating jobs and equitable distribution of benefits in all communities around IKN.

On the other hand, the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) stated that it is ready to take part in meeting gas energy needs at IKN.

One of the things that SKK Migas does is to develop basic infrastructure such as gas pipelines that are adapted to the spatial planning design and the IKN area.

Vice President of SKK Migas Erwin Suryadi who is also the General Chair of the Kapnas III Forum 2023 explained that gas energy in IKN as low-carbon fossil energy is still needed considering the large energy needs in the new capital city. However, there are things that can be done as a balancer.

Erwin said that the green transformation process must be carried out to convert carbon emissions, for example by planting trees to ensure environmental sustainability.

"Through the National Capacity Forum, we will integrate the capabilities of upstream oil and gas industry players, including business actors to support them, to answer the challenges of the energy transition to green energy at IKN," said Erwin.

Similarly, President Director of PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) Regional 3 Kalimantan John Anis said he was ready to support the fulfillment of IKN energy towards the Net Zero Emission target.

This support is realized by making various innovations and maximizing the use of environmentally friendly technology.

"We are committed to always contributing to upstream oil and gas activities to support other business activities in East Kalimantan, whether in the fertilizer industry, petrochemicals, LNG, or other industries," said John.
