Minimizing Dead Fish Mass Impact Of Weather Change In Lake Maninjau, Agam Regency Government Urges KJA Farmers To Harvest Early

The Agam Regency Government, West Sumatra Province, has asked farmers of the Floating Net Cage (KJA) in Lake Maninjau to be aware of weather changes by harvesting fish early and moving them to temporary shelters. Head of the Agam Food and Fisheries Security Service, Rosva Deswira, said that transferring fish to temporary shelters is so that fish do not die and minimize losses. "This must be done because on Friday, June 30 night the wind was quite strong which caused oxygen in the waters to decrease, so that the fish became mass dead," he said in Lubuk Basung, quoted from Antara, Sunday, July 2. He said that if the fish were affected by the death of the fish, they would not throw fish carcasses into the lake which resulted in pollution. Farmers are also asked not to spread fish seeds until the lake condition recovers. "Don't spread the seeds before the Lake Maninjau water conditions improve," he said. He admitted that floating net cages were filled with fish seeds of around 40 percent of the 23,359 plots. Currently, there is no fish death in Lake Maninjau and the death of fish on one of the social media circulating is the kamatian in early 2023. "The video has been around for a long time and is back in social media publications," he said.

He added that the death of fish in floating net cages from January to June 2023 was around 15.2 tons, with the previous year's fish death toll of around 455 tons.
