JAKARTA - The Jayapura City Manpower Office (Disnaker) said the unemployment rate in the area had decreased from more than 10 thousand to five thousand due to the expansion of three provinces or the New Autonomy Region (DOB) in Papua Province.

"From our data in 2022, there are more than 10 thousand unemployed in Jayapura City, but until May 2023 it will be five thousand because the addition of three new provinces in Papua, then from the technical Regional Apparatus Organization (OPD) there is also a lot of guidance for creative economy actors," said Head of the Jayapura City Manpower Office Djoni Naa in Jayapura, quoted from Antara, Thursday, June 29.

According to Naa, the expansion of three New Autonomous Regions in Papua also affects the number of job seekers in Jayapura City.

"In 2022, the job seeker figure in Jayapura City will reach 11,000 people, but until June 2023 there will be 5,530 people," he said.

He explained that in the next five years of development program, Jayapura will be used as a trading and service city so that all activities carried out by technical Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) will be oriented towards trading.

"So we hope that all OPDs together to make training, but the goal is to reduce unemployment not only to pursue programs but how to be responsible for fostering and guiding until they are successful," he said again.

He added that his party hopes that the community, especially those who already have small and medium-sized businesses, will continue to survive and be able to develop their business.

"Because the current job opportunities are very limited, so it is hoped that business actors can think about how their business will continue," he said again.
