JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo asked narcotics dealers and dealers in Indonesian territory to be punished as severely as possible as a form of commitment to eradicating drugs.

"The punishment is as harsh as possible for dealers and narcotics dealers," Jokowi said through a video shown on the peak commemoration of International Anti Narcotics Day at the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park, Badung, Bali, reported by ANTARA, Monday, June 26.

In addition to giving severe punishments to dealers and narcotics dealers, Jokowi also ordered that rehabilitation efforts for narcotics addicts be increased.

On the side of prevention, Jokowi asked all elements to strengthen family and community resilience and raise awareness about the dangers of narcotics that started early on.

"Let's make this year's International Anti Narcotics Day a momentum to further fight the abuse and illicit trafficking of narcotics," said Jokowi.

Meanwhile, the Head of the National Narcotics Agency, Komjen P. Petrus Reinhard Golose, said that according to President Jokowi's orders, BNN would take firm action against any parties who seek to be involved in illicit narcotics trafficking.

"We will eradicate really drug dealers, but we will also increase the issue of rehabilitation and how we socialize, especially at an early age. The compilation of events at night is a combination of activities that have been carried out by the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency in conveying messages to the international community how serious our nation is in dealing with narcotics problems," he said.

Golose said the HANI peak commemoration event at Garuda Wisnu Kencana Badung, Bali was a warning to the people of Indonesia and the international community how serious the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency was in eradicating drugs.

He revealed that there are many strategies used by BNN in eradicating narcotics, namely strategic power approach, hard power approach, smart power approach and collaboration. Of these, BNN RI still prioritizes prevention measures.

"We prioritize soft power over hard power approach. We will save more with programs that touch grassroots communities," he said.

Regarding the dominant narcotics in Indonesia, Golose stated that marijuana still dominates among other types of narcotics. However, the existence of other types of narcotics is also a serious concern for all parties.

"The most narcotics in Indonesia that come in are metamphetamine, then marijuana, but overall the most users are cannabis sativa (doubly), then metamfetamina or crystall, but also we will anticipate it because of the entry of heroin, cocaine," said Golose.

To anticipate this, he said, cooperation is needed, collaboration is not only in Indonesia, especially with countries that are subject to triangles, gold concentrate, African countries that were widely used as couriers and South America.
