Mount Anak Krakatau Erupts, Volcanic Ash As High As 1.5 Km

JAKARTA - Mount Anak Krakatau, which is located in the southern waters of Sundanese, South Lampung Regency, Lampung, has again erupted, throwing volcanic ash as high as 1.5 kilometers.

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reported that the eruption occurred at 08.22 WIB, Monday, June 19.

"The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity leaning towards the southeast," said officers of the Mount Anak Krakatau Monitoring Post, Jumono, as reported by ANTARA.

Jumono said the eruption that occurred this morning could not be heard from the sound of a bang.

According to him, the eruption was recorded through a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 70 millimeters and a duration of approximately 3 minutes 2 seconds.

Mount Anak Krakatau, which has a height of 157 meters above sea level, is still at Level III (Alert) status since April 24, 2022 until now.

PVMBG recommends residents not to approach the volcano or move within a 5 kilometer radius of the active crater to avoid the impact of the eruption.

Since the birth of Mount Anak Krakatau in June 1927 until now, the eruption has occurred repeatedly, so that Mount Anak Krakatau grows bigger and reaches 157 meters above sea level.

The eruption characteristics of Mount Anak Krakatau are in the form of explosive eruptions and effusive eruptions with eruption breaks ranging from one to six years.
