BALIKPAPAN - Director General of Disease Prevention and Control of the Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, explained that five provinces in Indonesia have been free from malaria, namely DKI Jakarta, Bali, Banten, East Java and West Java.

"We hope that all stakeholders, especially the leadership of regents and mayors and governors, will mobilize all potential and cross-sectors to create malaria electrification areas," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, June 15.

In general, the spread of malaria in Indonesia is still high, especially in the eastern region. As many as 80 percent of cases of extraordinary malaria (KLB) were donated from provinces in the eastern region.

The central government is committed to reducing the spread of malaria, this is in line with the global commitment (SDGs) that all countries must be free from diseases caused by the bite of female anopheles mosquitoes or the 2030 Malaria Elemination target.

"Well, how are we in Indonesia?. I said don't wait for 2030, and we really appreciate East Kalimantan's commitment to the 2026 elemination. This is an extraordinary and very rational spirit, because there are only four districts left," said Maxi Rein Rondonuwu.

The HMS2023 activity has the theme "With Investment, Innovation and Implementation", "We achieve a Malaria Free Indonesia, together with the delivery of malaria elimination certificates to five governors and 30 regents/mayors, whose regions have met the requirements for malaria elimination by the Minister of Health".

Maxi explained that he recognized the choice of IKN as the center for the commemoration of World Malaria Day, none other than to grow and raise new spirits towards a Healthy and Malaria-Free Indonesia.

"The target at the 2024 RPJMN is 405 districts and cities that must be eliminated, and the remaining RPJMN will be the following. Where, until now there have been 381 districts and cities that have eliminated and the 2024 target has run out," he explained.
