AGAM - The corpse flower (Amorphophallus Titanum) as high as 2.55 meters fully blooms in the Jorong Sitingkai Other Use Area (APL), Nagari Koto Rantang, Palupuh District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra. Head of the Maninjau Resort BKSDA West Sumatra (West Sumatra) Rusdiyan P Ritonga said the corpse flower, which has a trunk circumference of 1.95 meters and a height of 2.55 meters, is expected to bloom on Sunday, June 11 to the next two or three days. "After this bloom phase, the flower will wither and rot. The corpse flower itself is known to experience two phases, namely a vegetative or leafy phase which is marked by the presence of stems and leaves and lasts up to two years, and a generative or flowering phase that lasts for 7-10 days," he said in Lubukbasung, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, June 13. This corpse flower is the 6th to bloom throughout 2023. First in January, then in March two individuals, and May two individuals. All of the corpse flowers bloom around Jorong Sitingkai, Nagari Koto Rantang," he said. "This corpse flower is the highest during 2023 and has previously been as high as 4.49 meters in December 2022," he said. He admitted that there had been no visits from local tourists to see firsthand the flower, because it had been in bloom since Sunday, June 11, 2023. However, he appealed to residents who know the existence of these flowers to protect and preserve them as the biological wealth of the Indonesian nation. "Please use it for tourist visits, but do not trade them both in intact and in parts," said Rusdiyan.

Carrion flowers include puspa which are protected according to Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and their Ecosystems and Ministerial Regulation of LHK Number 106 of 2018. Currently, there are four types of corpse flowers found in Agam, namely Amorphophallus Titanum, Amorphophallus Gigas, Amorphophallus senzenifoliolus, and Amorphophallus Variabilis.
