JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) appealed to be aware of drought for people in the areas of Java, Bali, to West and East Nusa Tenggara (NTB and NTT).

"Be aware of the areas that we have conveyed here, generally Java is very vulnerable to drought. Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara," said Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Information and Communication Data Center Abdul Muhari as reported by ANTARA, Monday, June 12.

Abdul reports that West Nusa Tenggara has seen drought. These areas are drought-prone areas in the data that have been researched for the past 10 years.

To mitigate drought, BNPB seeks weather modification technology (TMC), by making artificial rain to fill and maintain the water position in reservoirs.

That way during the dry season, there is still a stock of water left to use.

"So we don't wait for the dry season first and then artificial rain, because then it's already dry season, we want artificial rain, the clouds are gone, we can't," said Abdul.

Drought, said Abdul, will have a profound impact on the Indonesian economy. BNPB appealed for early warnings and preparedness for drought in the area.

Meanwhile, in the Sumatra region, BNPB appealed to vigilance on potential forest and land fires (karhutla).
