BMKG: 2024 Budget Focuses On Disaster Resilience To Climate Change

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that the 2024 budget focuses on building the environment, increasing disaster resilience, and climate change.

"The theme and direction of the 2024 Government Work Plan (RKP) policy, especially BMKG, supports National Priority Number 6, namely building a environment, increasing disaster resilience and climate change. So, the 2024 budget is focused on this," said BMKG Head Dwikorita Karnawati in a Hearing Meeting (RDP) with Commission V DPR reported by ANTARA, Thursday, June 8.

There are three main targets in the field of Geophysics Climatology Meteorology (MKG) in the initial draft RKP 2024, namely increasing the speed of conveying disaster early warning information to the public.

"The indicator is that the speed of delivery of disaster early warning information to the public is three minutes for 2024. In 2023 is 3.5 minutes," he said.

The second target, he continued, is increasing the system and early warning responses supported by preparedness and reduction of disaster risk, as well as increasing capacity and institutional coordination in disaster management.

"The indicator is the percentage completeness of the hydrometeorological and tectonic disaster early warning system. The target is 100 percent, for this year it is still 96 percent," he said.

The third target, said Dwikorita, increases the accuracy of meteorological and climatological information. The accuracy of meteorological information is targeted at 91 percent, the accuracy of klimatology information at 83 percent.

Dwikorita also conveyed the direction of the 2020-2024 BMKG policy, namely to become a world-class Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency with a spirit of socio-entrepreneurs.

One of the strategic issues in the direction of the 2020-2024 BMKG policy is the need for quality and competitive human resources to answer the challenges of the disruption era towards a world-class BMKG.

In addition, he continued, organizations that are efficient and able to adapt quickly to various developments in science, technology, and the strategic environment.

Then, the need for meteorological information services for geophysical climatology that are fast, precise, accurate, and wide range and easy to understand according to the needs of the community.

"Another strategic issue is the strengthening and development of BMKG operational equipment infrastructure, and integrated data needs to support information services," he said.

Dwikorita conveyed that the BMKG indicative ceiling for the 2024 Fiscal Year was IDR 2.769 trillion.

"The BMKG indicative ceiling has a source of funds, namely pure rupiah, non-tax state revenue (PNBP), and foreign loans," he said.
