JAKARTA - Secretary-General of the National Mandate Party (PAN) Eddy Soeparno said he would hold a next meeting with the Gerindra Party DPP to follow up on the meeting at the PAN DPP Office, Jakarta, today. "Today's meeting we will follow up with the next meetings, whether the meeting is open or closed, but we are committed to continuing the conversation to the next stage," said Eddy after the friendship with the Gerindra Party DPP, quoted from Antara, Monday, June 5. In addition to being committed to continuing the next meeting, Eddy said, in today's meeting he discussed how the 2024 General Election process went smoothly, safely, peacefully and shadyly. "We agree, we have a responsibility to the community to present an enlightening democratic party and really bring benefits to our entire society," he said. In addition, he continued, PAN and the Gerindra Party agreed that the open proportional electoral system would be maintained in the upcoming elections. "We will struggle for it, we have voiced in sharing opportunities, both from parties and factions in the DPR RI, and we will strengthen that commitment again in our meeting this afternoon," he said. This PAN meeting with the Gerindra Party is the umpteenth meeting held by the two parties. "The point is that this meeting is a political gathering between two old friends, which we discuss are of course various actual things, various important things, we talk about, but the important thing is how we move forward," he said. Eddy revealed that PAN and the Gerindra Party have a long track record of cooperation, where in the 2014 and 2019 elections they jointly promoted Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto as a presidential candidate. "2014, 2019, PAN together with Gerindra carried Prabowo as a presidential candidate with his vice presidential candidate, (election) 2014 Pak Hatta Rajasa, a cadre of the 2019 National Mandate Party, Mr. Sandiaga," he said. On that basis, he is also optimistic that PAN and Gerindra will re-knit political cooperation in the 2024 presidential election. "If you want to work in the future, you just have to click again, so this is indeed a form of cooperation that has been established together for a long time," he said. Apart from Eddy, during the meeting were Deputy Chairperson of PAN Yandri Susanto, Chairman of the DPP PAN Saleh Partaonan Daulay, to Chairman of the DKI Jakarta PAN Regional Leadership Council (DPW) Eko Hendro Purnomo or Eko Patrio. Meanwhile, from the Gerindra Party DPP, Gerindra Party Secretary General Ahmad Muzani, Gerindra Party DPP Daily Chair Sufmi Dasco, Gerindra Party Deputy Chair Sugiono, Gerindra Party Deputy Chair Habiburokhman, to Gerindra General Treasurer Thomas Djiwandono. To note, registration for presidential and vice-presidential candidates is scheduled for October 19 to November 25, 2023. Based on Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections (UU Pemilu), pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates are proposed by political parties or coalitions of political parties participating in the election who meet the requirements for obtaining seats of at least 20 percent of the total seats in the DPR or obtaining 25 percent of valid votes nationally in the previous election for members of the DPR.

Currently, there are 575 seats in parliament, so that the pairs of presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election must have at least 115 seats in the DPR RI. It is also possible that the candidate pairs can be promoted by political parties or a combination of political parties participating in the 2019 Election with a total valid vote acquisition of at least 34,992,703 votes.
