JAYAPURA - Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri emphasized that currently his party is maximizing negotiations so that the KKB will release the pilot hostage of Susi Air, a New Zealand national.

Fakhiri confirmed various efforts made by the TNI-Polri to save Susi Air Pilot Philip Mark Mehterns who were held hostage by the KKB led by Egianus Kogoya.

"I have spoken with various parties about this negotiation process, including the church, which includes the Council of Churches and Bishops so that as much as possible we can negotiate with the Egianus Kogoya group so that the pilot is released," explained Fakhiri in Jayapura as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, May 25.

The Papua Police Chief admitted that although negotiations were being carried out, the Cartenz Peace Task Force was currently preparing appropriate, decisive and measurable law enforcement steps.

He emphasized that negotiations can be done with anyone, because from the start it had been carried out with the Nduga Regional Government in collaboration with the police chief. Including Komnas HAM who offered to help.

"I hope the negotiations will bring good results, because we are giving the Egianus group the opportunity to return the pilots through good negotiation channels, including assistance from the Kingmi Church which will later send their trusted people to negotiate," explained Fakhiri.
