SURABAYA - The Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) collaborates with the Telkom Institute of Technology Surabaya (ITTS) in making motorcycles and electric stoves to be sent to Papua and border areas in Indonesia.

Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini said the innovation was part of efforts to solve transportation problems in the area, especially for the transportation of goods in areas that were still relatively difficult.

"Eating on the motorbike earlier was a place for goods, transporting goods for mountains, because it was very expensive there. That's why we asked for electric motorbikes that can be used for terrain to climb up and down the mountain in Papua. There, fuel is difficult, that's why we use solar power," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 22.

The former mayor of Surabaya said that with the technology that uses electricity, in his innovation a charging station was also made to overcome the concerns that the battery will run out with a long distance.

"We will install it at several points, in several districts, first in the mountains for electric motors," he said.

The Minister of Social Affairs said that apart from electric motorcycles, there is also an innovation of electric stoves that will be used to overcome difficulties in getting gas in border areas.

"Next time we went to Krayan, Krayan was from North Kalimantan which borders Malaysia, it was difficult for them to gas, they cooked it was difficult, because it was far away. If we want to go there we have to use a small plane, we can't use road roads. So, gas needs a lot of transportation, so it becomes expensive and that often makes them unable to find it," he said.

In the future, to overcome this problem, he continued, his party will again hold discussions with the ITTS Chancellor and the local community.

Meanwhile, ITTS Chancellor Tri Arief Sardjono stated that the electric motorcycle innovation has the ability to transport a load of 200 kg on the back and can cover 60 to 70 km with a fast charging of two to three hours.

"The difference is that he also uses building ups, he doesn't use chains anymore, so it's already directly in the wheels. Now there is one unit, then we will have a second version," he said.

Tri Arief explained that the electric stove made by ITTS is different from the one in the market, which is to have a way of working from solar panels. "There is an electric stove with a solar panel installed, hopefully it will be useful," he added.
