TANGERANG A security guard in Tangerang was arrested by residents and a number of traders for using counterfeit money for transactions. Tangerang City Metro Police Chief, Kombes Zain Dwi Nugroho said the perpetrator with the initials BRG (26) was successfully secured on Saturday, May 20, at 21.00 WIB, in the Cipondoh area, Tangerang City.

"The perpetrators were previously secured by residents and traders who realized that the money paid in the amount of one hundred thousand rupiah was fake," said Zain in his statement, Monday, May 22.

Furthermore, the victim and residents reported to the Cipondoh Police, for further action.

"After a search, it turned out that another counterfeit money worth Rp. 1.4 million was found by the perpetrator," he said.

The officer then conducted an examination of BRG. As a result, he admitted that he still kept other counterfeit money in his rented house.

"The police found other counterfeit money worth Rp. 8,900,000 which was stored in a wardrobe and cash box," he said.

Zain explained that the perpetrator got the counterfeit money through social media by buying it online. He has made counterfeit money transactions twice.

"From every purchase of Rp. 10 million counterfeit money, he paid Rp. 3.5 million through account transfers," he said.

The perpetrators were charged under Article 245 of the Criminal Code and Article 36 of Law No. 7 of 2011 concerning currencies with a penalty of 15 years in prison.
