Jokowi Reveals That He Received Damaged Road Complaints At 7,400 Locations From Social Media

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo revealed that he received complaints of damaged roads up to 7,400 locations from the public submitted through social media, such as Instagram, Twitter, to Presidential Facebook.

This was conveyed by President Jokowi during a review of the damaged road in North Labuanbatu Regency, North Sumatra, Wednesday, May 17.

"Yesterday I checked that there were only 7,400 damaged road affairs that entered IG, Twitter, Facebook, which we have," said the President in a statement quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 17.

Jokowi conveyed that apart from data from the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), he received reports of damaged road complaints from netizens.

Previously, President Joko Widodo opened an opportunity for netizens to submit their complaints regarding damaged roads through video uploads on his Instagram account @jokowi.

In his statement, the President wrote "If the road in your area is still badly damaged and has not been repaired for a long time, convey it to me through the comments column and send a video via direct message on this Instagram account".

The video upload when President Jokowi visited one of the damaged roads in Lampung Province was flooded with complaints from netizens about damaged roads in their area of up to more than 100 thousand comments.

Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media of the Presidential Secretariat Bey Machmudin explained that complaints from netizens submitted through the comments column uploaded by President Joko Widodo could make it easier for the government to re-check damaged road data.

Bey explained that the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) had collected data and also surveyed damaged roads in all provinces by the National Road Implementation Center/Balai in the regions.

"With public complaints or netizens on President Jokowi's social media accounts, a 'cross check' can be carried out, between data from the Ministry of PUPR and data submitted by netizens, so that it will be more targeted," said Bey.
