Often Falling Victims Of Life, Illegal Crossing Of Jatinegara Station Finally Closed

JAKARTA - The illegal crossing, which is located in the Jatinegara Station area, East Jakarta, has finally been closed again by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI). The closure of the illegal crossing was carried out because many accidents occurred at KM 12+400 across Jatinegara-Bekasi.

"By the end of this week, Daop 1 Jakarta has closed illegal crossings at KM 12 + 400 across Jatinegara - Bekasi. The illegal crossing is a guardrail that has been dismantled by unscrupulous persons," said Head of Public Relations of KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, Eva Chairunisa when confirmed by VOI, Sunday, May 14.

The closure of illegal crossings is a form of KAI's support to realize safety and security and implementation of Law 23 of 2007 concerning Railways.

"From early January to May 2023, KAI Daop 1 Jakarta has closed 8 illegal crossings," he said.

The closed level crossing was at KM 26+100 between Cakung-Bekasi, KM 41+2/3 between Citayam Bojonggede, KM 133+029 between Tonjong Baru - Cilegon, KM 40+1/2 between Cibinong Citayam, KM 115+6/7 between Serang Karangantu, KM 115+7/8 between Serang Kangantu, KM 7+0/1 between Ancol - Tanjung Priuk and KM 12+400 between Jatinegara Bekasi.

"KAI Daop 1 Jakarta condemns the actions of the community who often make illegal crossings or dismantle the guardrail in the rail line area so that it often causes accidents," he said.

According to KAI Daop 1 Jakarta records, from January to May 14, 2023, 77 incidents of people hit a train spread across the Daop 1 Jakarta area.

"A total of 53 of them died, 20 were lightly injured and 4 survived," he said.

Daop 1 Jakarta urges all people and motorists not to do activities around the rail line, not to make illegal crossings to pass and use official crossings and comply with traffic rules and signs installed when going through a railroad crossing.

Previously, at a illegal crossing of the KM 12+400 railway line across Jatinegara - Bekasi, suicide took place over the victim, the head of the East Jakarta Metro Police Narcotics Unit, who had only been in office for several weeks. The member of the National Police entered the railway line through a illegal section crossing.

A few weeks later, there was another resident from Palmeriam, Matraman. The elderly man was found dead due to being hit by a train near a illegal crossing KM 12+400 across Jatinegara - Bekasi.
