SEMARANG - The Semarang City Government is collaborating with the German government to fix the public transportation sector in Atlas City in a sustainable manner and to be able to unravel congestion which has been a problem in big cities.

Semarang City Regional Secretary Iswar Aminudin revealed the importance of preparing a comfortable transportation network in accordance with the growing movement of the community.

This was conveyed by Iswar when receiving a visit from the KFW Development Team of Bank Germany, which plans to disburse loans and provide assistance in public transportation development projects in Semarang City.

"His mindset needs to be changed. It is no longer a narrow road as a source of congestion, but rather because of the pattern of human movement that is not balanced with the availability of comfortable public spaces," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 11.

He gave an example, congestion will be unraveled by increasing the capacity and quality of pedestrians, building a comfortable public transportation network, and connecting work points and community occupancy points.

For this reason, Iswar asked the team to continue to oversee planning and integrated operations that not only focus on infrastructure, but also on planning the upstream and downstream operational stwadar, covering connectivity, comfort, and character and human movement patterns.

"Be sure the funds will be sufficient. However, it must be planned from upstream to downstream, not in vain without thinking about the fundamentals," concluded Iswar.

Meanwhile, Head of Division to The Urban Development and Mobility for Asia KFW Mr. Dr. Wolfram Erhardt said that KFW will be a donor or lender to the Ministry of Finance for the Semarang Raya BRT project.

"We have prepared a loan of 150 million euros or around Rp. 2 trillion more," he said.

In fact, before providing the investment, KFW has also disbursed a free grant of Rp. 6 billion rupiah to complete developments in the feasibility and environmental and social licensing study.

However, KFW does not only provide investment, but also provides assistance in the construction of sustainable public transportation projects.
