Kiai FM, who is a defendant in cases of child molestation and sexual violence in Jember Regency, underwent his first online trial at the Class II-A Penitentiary (Lapas) Jember, East Java.

"Today is the agenda for reading indictments related to child molestation and sexual violence," said Public Prosecutor of the Jember Prosecutor's Office, Adek Sri Sumiarsih, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 4.

FM was charged with child molestation and sexual violence with three victims of his students at the Islamic boarding school he was fostering in Ajung District, Jember Regency.

According to him, the trial was held online because there was no notification letter to the Jember Prison, so the panel of judges suggested that the inaugural trial be held online.

"However, for the next trial, it will be carried out outside the network, so that the defendant is presented at the trial at the Jember District Court. We also need to coordinate with the Jember Police regarding security during the trial," he said.

He explained that the legal team did not read out the exception or response to the public prosecutor's indictment in the inaugural trial, so the panel of judges postponed the trial with the agenda of examining witnesses on Thursday (11/5) next week.

Meanwhile, the Head of the General Crime Section of the Jember Kejari, I Gede Wiraguna Wiradarma, confirmed that the alleged molestation case that occurred in the Islamic boarding school in Ajung District had entered the trial stage.

"We have prepared five public prosecutors in the trial of the case," he said.

FM was charged with violating Article 82 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 76E of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 17 of 2016 concerning Stipulation of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law Number 1 of 2016 concerning Second Amendment to Law Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection

MF was also charged with Article 6 letter c in conjunction with Article 15 letter b of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning the Crime of Sexual Violence. In addition, MF was also charged with Article 296 paragraph (2) of the 2nd Criminal Code.

RI Law Number 17 of 2016 is used because two women who become victims are known to be underage and Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning the Crime of Sexual Violence refers to adult female victims.
