JAKARTA - The Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) hopes that the dispute that may occur in the registration stage for candidates for DPR, DPD, provincial DPRD, and district/city DPRD can be resolved through mediation facilitated by Bawaslu.

"We hope that if there is a problem (dispute) it can be resolved in the mediation room. There is no need for a time-consuming trial," said Bawaslu member Totok Hariyono in a media discussion entitled "Anticipation of Dispute Floods at the 2024 Election Babileg Registration" which was held at the Bawaslu Media Center, Jakarta, Thursday, May 4, was confiscated by Antara.

Totok said that Bawaslu always strives so that disputes in the 2024 election stage can be resolved in the mediation forum between dispute applicants and defendants, in this case the General Elections Commission (KPU).

As contained in Article 42 paragraph (2) of Bawaslu Regulation (Perbawaslu) Number 9 of 2022 concerning Procedures for Completion of General Election Process Disputes (Pemilu), mediation related to disputes in the election stages is carried out for a maximum of two consecutive days starting from the time the application is registered.

Furthermore, Article 48 of Perbawaslu 9/2022 states that if the results of the mediation of the parties do not agree, then the dispute with the election organizers is resolved through an adjudication.

The KPU has announced that registration for legislative candidates will be carried out simultaneously on May 1-14, 2023.

Registration of members of the DPR can be done by the leadership of a political party or representing 1-13 May 2023 at 08.00-16.00 WIB and Sunday 14 May at 08.00-23.59 WIB at the KPU Office, Jakarta.

Then for prospective provincial DPRD members, each provincial-level political party management will be registered with each provincial KPU and prospective district/city DPRD members will be registered by political party officials at the district/city level at their respective district/city KPU offices.

Meanwhile, registration of candidates for DPD members can only be registered by 700 candidates who have met the requirements for support that have been submitted to the provincial KPU. They can register as candidates for DPD members at the provincial KPU office in accordance with the electoral district or at the Office of the Independent Election Commission (KIP) Aceh.
