Tanah Abang Thugs Dominate Illegal Parking Land On Road Shoulders, Per Motor Unit Ditarif Rp10 Thousand

JAKARTA - The annual phenomenon every month of Ramadan in the largest shopping center Tanah Abang Market is often used by a number of thugs to control illegal vehicle parking lots. Unmitigated, the thugs set a motorbike parking rate of IDR 10,000 per motorbike parked.

A number of visitors complained about the high parking rates for illegal parking. This is because the illegal jukir (parking attendants) who guarded the parking lot asked for money from the motorcycle owner first.

"I was surprised why I was Rp. 10 thousand. I was given Rp. 2 thousand in cash," said Iwan, one of the users of illegal parking, Monday, April 10.

Iwan said the motorbike parking rate applied was unreasonable. He assessed that illegal parking attendants took advantage of the moment ahead of Eid.

"Yes, I'm just looking forward to parking at Eid, so it's expensive," he said.

He also hopes that the government will control the actions of the illegal parking attendant.

"Yes, it is disciplined. Just try it," said Iwan.

From observations in the field, there are a number of points that are used as illegal parking locations. Like under the pedestrian bridge (JPO) of Jalan H Fachrudin and on the side of the Tanah Abang Market road.

Even though there were Satpol PP troops on guard, they did not move with the activities of the illegal parking attendants. It appears that the officers guarding the Tanah Abang Market area can only see the activity without controlling it.

Previously, illegal parking attendants in the Tanah Abang area took advantage of the situation during Ramadan to reap personal benefits. He made illegal levies through parking rates for two-wheeled vehicles for IDR 10,000 per unit.

The illegal levies (extortion) was also written on a banner poster in the parking area. The green banner reads: Ahead of fasting on March 1s/d Lebaran 2023, parking IDR 10,000. The poster was attached to a wall in the parking lot.

The location of the illegal parking location was then recorded by an amateur camera, one of the visitors who objected to the high parking rates for motorbikes. The video was uploaded on one of the Instagram social media accounts.

The video states "Not yet a month, I have been on this pilgrimage". Then, the video went viral and was guarded virtually. So that the Central Jakarta Metro Police who received the viral video report immediately took action.

"For the perpetrator to park Rp10 thousand, one person has been secured to the Tanah Abang Metro Police," said Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Komarudin when confirmed by VOI, Friday, March 31.
