JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a hand arrest operation (OTT) in Meranti Islands Regency, Riau Province last night. The Regent of Meranti Islands Muhammad Adil was caught in the arrest.

Adil's arrest was the first OTT in 2023. The previous OTT was carried out on December 14, where the KPK arrested the Deputy Chairperson of the East Java DPRD, Sahat Tua P. Simandjuntak, regarding the bribery case for managing the allocation of grant funds.

"Today we managed to arrest the Meranti regent. For three months from January to March 31, 2023, there were no arrests," said KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri to reporters, Friday, April 7.

From this arrest, Firli claimed that he and other KPK leaders worked professionally in accordance with the provisions of the law and laws and regulations.

"There should be no legal defects at the end of the term of office of the KPK leadership because the five of us are always careful and compact in making decisions. Every decision is taken unanimously," he said.

Previously, the Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri said that Adil was arrested by the KPK along with a number of Meranti Islands Regency officials. They are now being taken to Jakarta.

"Last night, the KPK team succeeded in arresting several parties who were involved in corruption in Meranti Islands Regency, Riau. Several parties have been arrested including the Regent," said Ali.

Ali has not detailed what corruption cases ensnared Adil and a number of people who were arrested. Ali said that currently the anti-corruption agency is still gathering further information.

"Currently the KPK team is still working. We continue to collect information from several parties," said Ali.

"After that, we will definitely convey the complete results of these activities as part of the KPK's information disclosure to the public," he continued.
