BENGKULU - Rejang Lebong Regent Syamsul Effendi stated that he joined the Golkar Party. Syamsul was previously a PKS cadre.

"A few weeks ago we (I) participated in the activities of the Golkar party in Jakarta, on that occasion we were given a Golkar membership card and the installation of Golkar oversized clothes," said Syamsul Effendi in Rejang Lebong, Bengkulu, Thursday, March 30, as reported by Antara.

He explained that previously he served as a deliberative board (MPD) of the PKS DPD Rejang Lebong Regency, although in the 2020 simultaneous regional elections he ran from an independent path and was supported by PKS.

"Regarding my move or my presence in the Golkar Party, if it is considered a political decision, it is fine, but for me it is only situational," he said.

His existence in the Golkar Party itself if considered by others as preparation for the 2024 simultaneous elections in the region he admitted that he had not made his choice.

As for the relationship with PKS, he said, it will still be established and guarded because he as the regent also has the right to provide guidance to political parties in the region, including PKS.

"This has no intention of anything but because it is situational only. If it is administratively, God willing, in the last few days I will make an official letter," he said.

Previously, the Chairman of the PKS DPD, Rejang Lebong Regency, Nasrullah, said that his party had not received an official statement from Syamsul Effendi as MPD PKS Rejang Lebong regarding his move to the Golkar Party.

"We are still trying to confirm with him because so far we have not met, we have also reported this incident to the Bengkulu PKS DPW," he said.
