Dozens Of Black Crows For Mystical Rituals Sent From Surabaya To Solo

SURABAYA - Polres Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya, East Java, thwarted the smuggling of dozens of black crows for mystical rituals which were planned to be sent to Solo, Central Java.

"From this smuggling, we arrested a suspect named Supriadi, a resident of Kupang, Surabaya. There were 51 black crows that were secured. All of them were obtained from Supriadi," said the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Tanjung Perak Port Police, Surabaya, AKP Arief Ryzki Wicaksana, reported by ANTARA, Friday, March 24.

Arief explained that from the examination carried out on the suspect, the dozens of black crows were specially designated for mystical rituals. All the crows failed to be smuggled when they arrived at the Port of Tanjung Perak, Surabaya, on Sunday (20/3).

All bad black crows are not equipped with documents. Of the 51 tails, some of them died.

"We will release them to their natural habitat in Makassar, South Sulawesi. Meanwhile, 18 of them died," said Arief.

Supriadi admitted to the police that he was transiting at the Port of Tanjung Perak. Furthermore, the man who served as a courier was going to Solo to send the 51 black crows.

Nevertheless, AKP Arief emphasized that this was still a criminal offense because Supriadi did not have a permit and the shipment was made up to four times.

Meanwhile, Head of Tanjung Perak Animal Quarantine Inter-Area Coordinator Santoso said the deaths of dozens of crows were due to errors in the placement and delivery procedures, including the wrong containers used.

"The suspect (Supriadi) used a fruit container, there were no documents up to the animal health certificate at all," he said.

As a result of his actions, Supriadi is suspected of violating Article 88 letter A and letter C of Law 21 of 2019 concerning Animal and Plant Quarantine which carries a penalty of 2 years in prison.
