Floods Still Soak On The West Kalimantan Beach, Water Levels Are Capai Half House

A number of areas in Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan (West Kalimantan) have been flooded since Wednesday, March 1.

One of those affected by the flood in Sepantai Village, Sejanggung District. The water level in the area still reaches half the house.

"Flooding since the beginning of the month and until now is still ongoing. The water level and even half of the houses and boats can enter," said the Bidan Kaur Planning community of the Setai Village Government, Suria, when contacted in Sekatai, West Kalimantan, Monday, March 13, as reported by Antara.

He explained that the flood was the impact of the rain that had continued to fall and until now. The rain has occurred since February 27, 2023.

"Then starting March 1, 2023, it has been flooded and has entered people's homes until now it has not gradually receded," he said.

He explained that in Satai Hamlet there were 101 heads of families (KK) and Sepandak 217 families. There are 83 families who have fled to places where their families and other relatives are located higher or not affected by the flood.

"A number of residents have to be forced to evacuate because the houses are submerged. The residents who survive only have a second floor," he said.

With the existing flood conditions, community activities are hampered and prefer to stay in their respective homes or in refugee camps. They need help so they can survive.

"The most expected assistance at this time is basic necessities and baby needs. Both are what we really hope for," he said.

He said that so far the aid had also flowed from the West Kalimantan Provincial Government through PMI, palm oil companies around villages, PAFI Sambas PCs, Karang Taruna, Sejankung District, BUMDdesma District, Sekatai Village Government and others.

"Of course we continue to hope for assistance because we do not know how long the flood will recede. For recovery, it will also take time for the community to return to looking for sources of income. Well, assistance is needed," he hoped.

Meanwhile, the midwife who served in Setai Village, Dahlia said, so far from a public health perspective, there have been fever, stone and runny nose. His party continues to accompany and urge the public to continue to maintain health because at a time of flood the potential for greater disease attacks the body.

"Although at this time in general public health is still safe, some have been infected with fever, cough and runny nose and others. We from midwives in collaboration with the Sejanggung Health Center have several times carried out free treatment to the public while urging the public to continue to maintain health," he said.
