Help, 282 Refugees Due to Landslide in Isolated Natuna Need Food, Drink, Medicine and Baby Equipment

NATUNA - Landslide victims who took refuge in Serasan 1 Public High School, Pangkalan Village, Serasan District, Natuna Regency, Riau Archipelago Province, needed assistance with food, drink, medicine, clothing, bedding and baby equipment.

The refugee coordinator at Serasan 1 Public High School Johan Wahyudi said, "A total of 282 people consisting of 21 toddlers, 53 children, 169 adults and 39 elderly people were displaced at Serasan 1 Public High School.

The displaced residents need help with food, drink, cutlery, medicine, clothing, diapers for toddlers and the elderly, sleeping equipment, toiletries, baby equipment, sanitary napkins, milk for toddlers, raincoats, fuel, communication devices, and generators.

"We were isolated, we couldn't cross and we didn't dare to cross to the sub-district. The access road was cut off by being buried in the ground. Fortunately, there is a functioning school WiFi, so we can send news", said Johan when contacted from Serasan, Antara, Tuesday, March 7.

"For now we don't dare to leave the post. Residents are currently afraid to get close to the cliff."

He hopes that the sub-district and district governments will immediately send aid to residents who are displaced in the Serasan 1 Public High School environment.

The landslide that happened on Monday occurred in the Serasan sub-district. According to government data, at least 10 people died and 47 people went missing, resulting in several people being injured, and forcing 1,216 people to flee.

Residents affected by the landslides, among others, took refuge at PLBN Serasan, Al Furqan Mosque, and Serasan 1 Public High School.
