General Chairperson Prima Asks the Central Jakarta District Court's Decision to Postpone the Election Be Respected

JAKARTA - The general chairman of Partai Rakyat Adil Makmur (Prima) Party, Agus Jabo Priyono, asked all parties to respect the decision of the Central Jakarta District Court which sentenced the KPU not to carry out the remaining stages of the 2024 election.

Apart from punishing the KPU for not carrying out the remaining stages of the election, the Central Jakarta District Court also punished the KPU for carrying out the election stages again from the beginning for approximately 2 years 4 months 7 days.

"We hope that all parties respect the decision of the Central Jakarta District Court which penalized the KPU not to carry out the remaining stages of the election", said Agus Jabo in a written statement in Jakarta, Friday morning.

Agus Jabo's statement was in response to the Chairperson of the PDI Perjuangan Megawati Soekarnoputri who rejected the decision of the Central Jakarta District Court and supported the KPU to continue with all stages of the election.

Agus Jabo reminded all parties to maintain the authority of the judiciary.

"For us to avoid actions, behaviour, attitudes and/or remarks that can undermine and undermine the authority, dignity and honour of the judiciary", he said.

Agus Jabo said the Central Jakarta District Court's decision to penalize the KPU for not carrying out the remaining stages of the election was a rational decision to create equal rights and justice for citizens.

Moreover, he continued, Prima 's demand that the election stage process be temporarily suspended is in accordance with Article 2 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights which has been ratified in Law Number 12 of 2005 concerning Ratification of the International Covenant Civil and Political Rights.

"The prohibition against the defendant from holding the election stages as a punishment is a rational demand to create equal rights and justice for the plaintiff", he said.

The Central Jakarta District Court previously granted the Prima Party's lawsuit against the KPU for not carrying out the remaining stages of the 2024 Election and carrying out the election stages from the beginning for approximately 2 years 4 months 7 days.

Various parties, from political parties, academics, to election activists, considered that the decision of the panel of judges violated the constitution, and even exceeded the judge's authority.

"It is not the competence of the Central Jakarta District Court to deal with this problem, let alone order the election to be postponed until 2025", said a member of the Advisory Board of the Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem) Titi Anggraini.
