JAKARTA - Attorney General ST Burhanuddin instructed the ranks of the prosecutor's office to oversee and provide education to village officials in executing programs that use village funds.

“I don't want village officials to go to prison because of ignorance. Therefore, provide them with materials related to accountability for the financial management of village funds so as to avoid corrupt cases," said Burhanuddin in a written statement in Jakarta, Antara, Sunday, February 19.

He also asked that the Jaksa Masuk Desa (Jaga Desa) program continue to be implemented so that the presence of prosecutors can be felt in the village community.

The Attorney General also ordered all the Heads of the High Prosecutor's Office and their ranks to be more careful, wise, and careful in taking a stance and immediately following up on reports or complaints submitted by the public.

Burhanuddin also reminded his staff to pay attention to the time limit in each stage of case handling in order to provide legal certainty and avoid protracted settlement of cases as an embodiment of the principle of a fast, simple, and low-cost trial.

Specifically for handling reports or complaints related to alleged irregularities in the management of village finances carried out by village officials, prosecutors are asked to prioritize preventive or preventive measures as an embodiment of the principle of ultimum remedium or punishment as a last resort.

Handling of reports or complaints of alleged irregularities in the management of village finances should be carried out by coordinating between the Government Internal Supervisory Apparatus (APIP) and Law Enforcement Officials (APH) without negating or overriding each other's duties, functions, and authorities.

Burhanuddin also asked the prosecutor to be active in supervising village land administration to reduce land mafia at the village level.

Finally, Burhanuddin said that building legal awareness at the village and village administration levels, of course, is not enough with the Village Watch program.
