Calculations When Richard Eliezer Alias Bharada E Will Be Released from Prison After Sentenced to 1.5 Years

JAKARTA - The panel of judges sentenced Richard Eliezer alias Bharada E to imprisonment for 1 year and 6 months. With this decision, it is predicted that Bharada E will be released in February 2024.

This prediction referred to the verdict of the panel of judges which stated that Bharada E's sanction would be reduced by the period of detention from the time he was detained after being arrested.

"Determining the arrest and the length of the detention period that the defendant has served is deducted entirely from the sentence handed down", said Chief Judge Wahyu Iman Santoso during the trial at the South Jakarta District Court, Wednesday, February 15.

Bharada E was arrested by the Directorate of General Criminal Crimes of the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Indonesian National Police on August 3, 2022.

The calculation of Bharada E's free day in February 2024 is if the decision of the panel of judges is directly applied or inrah. This means that there is no appeal from either the defendant or the public prosecutor (JPU).

So far, Bharada E's camp has stated that it has not filed an appeal. The team of lawyers are satisfied with the 1-year 6 month sentence.

"That our legal advisers are in accordance (with the judge's decision, ed), that our target from the start was that we convey that this is a decision for Richard, whatever decision today, we will be sincere, we will accept it", said Ronny.

Meanwhile, the public prosecutor (JPU) at the Attorney General's Office stated that they had not decided on the next steps even though the panel of judges' decision was much lower than the demands. The reason, the prosecutor's team is still studying the decision file.

"We will study further all legal considerations and legal reasons presented in the quo decision to be taken into consideration in making further decisions", said the Head of the Attorney General's Legal Information Center Ketut Sumedana.
