During January, the Batam Immigration Office Prevented 1,258 People From Going Abroad

BATAM - Immigration Office Class I Special Immigration Checkpoints (TPI) Batam prevented 1,258 people who wanted to go abroad at three port points throughout January 2023.

"As many as 1,258 people have been rejected by immigration officers since the beginning of the year when they wanted to go abroad through three international ports in Batam", said Batam Immigration Information and Communication Technology Division Head, Ritus Rahmadhana, quoted by ANTARA on Tuesday, February 14.

He refused the thousand people, he said, to prevent them from working abroad unofficially.

"This is our effort to help prevent the unofficial departure of PMI candidates", he said.

The three ports are Batam Center International Port, Harborbay International Port and Sekupang International Port.

The rite specified that there were 800 people at Batam Center International Port, 419 people at Harborbay Port and 39 people at Sekupang Port.

"They are suspected of being PMI candidates who will go abroad unofficially", he said.

Ritus said the thousand people were detected when they were going through immigration checkpoints at three international ports in Batam. There were several checks carried out. One of them is by interviewing people suspected of being illegal PMI candidates.

He explained, if during the interview there was an indication that the person was an illegal PMI candidate, then the officer would not allow him to go abroad.

"There are several ways during the examination, one of which is by being interviewed", he said.
