SAMARINDA - Legislator of the East Kalimantan Provincial DPRD (Kaltim) Sigit Wibowo responded to a proposal to extend the term of office of the village head (kades) some time ago, that this could trigger the damage to village government regeneration.

"The proposal from the village heads to revise Law Number 6 of 2014 by extending the term of office from six years to nine years, is considered too long and affects the process of unhealthy leadership regeneration," said Deputy Chairperson of the East Kalimantan DPRD Sigit Wibowo as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, February 77th.

According to him, the village head's term of office has been enough for six years by being able to participate in the three-term election, so if it is extended to nine years with three terms, the total can be 27 years in office.

"This is a very long time, and of course it will trigger a dictatorial village government," he said.

According to him, every contestant in the village head election (Pilkades) certainly has competition, and the village democracy is for maturity, because every time there is a change it actually doesn't really affect the concerns in the village development process because there are already village medium-term development plans (RPJMDes) agreed by residents.

"In fact, it is feared that the longer he is in power, the more vulnerable he is to control because he is comfortable with the occupied position, there can even be a tendency to commit acts of corruption, collusion and nepotism (KKN)," said Sigit.

He alluded to the discourse on extending the village head's position, whether it was only the village head's suggestion or indeed the desire of the village community because sometimes they forget what the community is talking about, in fact, most of it is only the demands of the village officials and officials by rejecting the basic wishes of the community.

"It could be that the village community does not need an extension of the village head's term of office and needs more development, empowerment and welfare of the village community, whoever the village head is," said Sigit.

Previously, the village heads held a demonstration at the DPR RI Building on Wednesday, January 25 with demands for an extension of the term of office which was previously six years to nine years and asked the DPR RI to revise the term of office.

They reasoned that the extension of the village head's term of office had many positive impacts, such as the efficiency of the costs of implementing the village head election and village development which would be maximized in the welfare of the village community.

Within six years, according to them, it is considered not enough to build the village optimally because the adjustment of the bureaucracy in the village after the tension in the village head election takes a long time to restore the situation to be conducive.
