Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Intervened, Iran Gives Gracess To Dozens Of Detainees Except For Foreign Intel

JAKARTA - Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has given clemency to tens of thousands of prisoners. Including some who were arrested in anti-government protests.

However, Khamenei's clemency was conditional. One of them is a dual citizen who is detained a lot in Iran who cannot get the pardon program.

Based on a report by the state news agency, IRNA, on Sunday, February 5, those accused of "corruption on earth" -as some protesters have, are also excluded from obtaining clemency.

At least four of the number of protesters accused of corruption on earth have been executed by the government.

This program is also excluded from those accused by foreign intelligence, or those "affiliated with groups hostile to the Islamic Republic".

The clemency program comes after a massive demonstration in Iran. The demonstration was triggered by a Iranian Kurdish woman who died in police custody in September 2022. The Kurdish woman was detained for violating the dress code of women in Iran.

All levels of Iranian society participated in the demonstration which was considered the largest since the 1979 Revolution.

According to the HRANA activist news agency, at least 20 thousand demonstrators were arrested in connection with the protests. Police have accused them of being foreign enemies of Iran who are heating up the situation.

Local human rights fighters and organizations said more than 500 people, including 70 minors, had died. According to Iranian courts, four people have been hanged dead.

The demonstration then faded since the execution of those arrested was carried out.

Furthermore, Iran's Chief Justice, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei then wrote a letter to Khamenei. He asked for forgiveness from the leader of the country or clemency for those who are still being detained as a result of participating in the demonstration.

"In recent events, a number of people, especially young people, have committed wrong actions and crime as a result of indoctrination and enemy propaganda," said Ejei.

"Because plans from foreign enemies and anti-revolutional currents have been thwarted, many of these young people have regretted their actions," continued Ejei.

Khamenei then agreed to the request for a pardon in honor of the 1979 Islamic Revolution commemoration.

However, the exception was reiterated for those unable to receive clemency, namely being proven to have direct contact with foreign intelligence, or intentionally committing murder, and destroying state property in demonstrations in Iran recently.
