Preliminary Hearing Of Formula E Cases Held Repeatedly, KPK: That's Good

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said that there was nothing wrong when the exposure or title of the Formula E case was repeated many times. This step is good because any developments in the corruption investigation of the implementation of the race will be open to the leadership and structural officials.

"The natural thing when solving investigative cases openly is to do it by exposing it many times and so on. Precisely that is good for us," said Head of KPK Reporting Section Ali Fikri to journalists, Tuesday, January 17.

Ali ensured that discussions within the internal environment also proceeded openly. "The hope is of course a lot of input, many later the dynamics can then be resolved legally," he said.

"Whether a criminal incident was found, or is there a party that can be accounted for, that is certainly not done secretly, for example," continued Ali.

Previously, the KPK confirmed that it was investigating allegations of corruption at the Formula E racing event in DKI Jakarta. Several parties have been summoned, one of which is Anies Baswedan on Wednesday, September 7.

After the summons, it was reported that Anies would be named a suspect. This step is accused of tripping him up in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres).

Apart from Anies, a number of parties have also been summoned for questioning. One of them, DKI Jakarta DPRD Chairman Prasetyo Edy Marsudi, admitted explaining the issue of borrowing IDR 180 billion by the DKI Jakarta Dispora to pay a commitment fee to Formula E Operations (FEO).

Meanwhile, regarding the investigation into this alleged corruption, KPK Deputy Chair Alexander Marwata said there were a number of obstacles they had found in their efforts to investigate Formula E. One of them, had not been able to ask for help from the UK KPK or the Serious Fraud Office (SFO).

In fact, the KPK had to ask for help because the Formula E Operation (FEO) as the global organizer of the electric car racing event is domiciled in that country.

"For example, we haven't been able to provide assistance to the SFO (Serious Fraud Office)," KPK deputy chairman Alexander Marwata told reporters in Jakarta quoted on Monday, December 12.

The assistance meant by the KPK is to request documents and information from related parties. Next, Alexander said they could not force related parties to attend.

"We call them that they are still volunteers," he said.
