JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said the detention of Supreme Court Justice Gazalba Saleh was not due to a pretrial filing at the South Jakarta District Court (PN). The forced effort has been on the agenda for a long time.

"We also do not associate it with the pretrial filed by GS (Gazalba Saleh)," said KPK Director of Investigation Asep Guntur as quoted from the Indonesian KPK YouTube, Friday, December 9.

Asep said only Gazalba filed a pretrial against 13 suspects in the bribery case for case management. However, the KPK has no problem with the submission of the suspect's right.

Thus, the KPK will not delay forced efforts even though the judicial process is currently underway at the South Jakarta District Court. "This means that this is a normal thing," he said.

Similarly, Deputy Chairperson of the KPK Johanis Tanak said that pretrial is the right of every suspect. However, he ensured that the determination of the legal status of the litigants, including Gazalba, was in accordance with the laws and regulations.

"Our investigators have carried out (investigation, ed) as much as possible. Thus, the loopholes for pretrial are closed," said Johanis.

Johanis hopes that the pretrial will be rejected. Thus, the investigation into the alleged bribery received by Gazalba could be resolved.

Supreme Court Justice Gazalba Saleh has officially become a KPK prisoner after being named a suspect since last November 28. He is suspected of being involved in bribery in handling cases in the Supreme Court.

He was dragged into this case because he was suspected of discontinuing Budiman Gandi Suparman's cassation decision related to disputes within the Intidana Savings and Loans Cooperative.

As a result of his actions, Budiman, who is a board member, was sentenced to five years in prison. This decision was based on an agreement to give money amounting to Rp. 2.2 billion or 202,000 Singapore dollars.

Apart from Gazalba, the KPK also named 12 people as suspects. They are Yustial Judge Prasetio Nugroho and Gazalba staff, Redhy Novarisza.

Meanwhile, the other 10 people named as suspects are the inactive Supreme Court Judge Sudrajad Dimyati, Judicial Judge or substitute clerk, Elly Tri Pangestu (ETP); two state civil servants (ASN) at the MA, Desy Yustria (DY) and Muhajir Habibie (MH); and two ASN in the MA, Nurmanto Akmal (NA), and Albasri (AB).

Next, lawyers Yosep Parera (YP) and Eko Suparno (ES) as well as debtors of the Intidana Savings and Loans Cooperative, Heryanto Tanaka (HT), and Debtor of the Savings and Loans Cooperative Ivan Dwi Kusuma Sujanto (IDKS).
