SOUTH SUMATRA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Ogan Komering Ulu Regency (OKU) has installed early warning signs in areas prone to disasters.
According to the Manager of the Operations Control Center for BPBD, Ogan Komering Ulu Gunalfi Regency, said that the Pengandonan and Muara Jaya sub-districts were the two main areas in the installation of early warning signs for natural disasters.
"Installation of these natural disaster warning signs will be installed in stages in all flood-prone areas and landslides in OKU Regency," said Gunalfi in Baturaja, South Sumatra (Sumsel), quoted from Antara, Thursday, November 24.
Gunalfi said that the Pengandonan and Muara Jaya sub-districts have the potential to be affected by disasters because they are in the highlands and are close to the Ogan Watershed (DAS).
Almost every year the two areas experience flooding and landslides during the rainy season.
According to him, the sub-districts that are prone to flooding include Ulu Ogan, Muara Jaya, Semidang Aji, Baturaja Barat, Baturaja Timur, Lubuk Batang, Peninjauan, Kedaton Peninjauan Raya, Sosoh Buay Rayap, and Lengkiti. The sub-districts are located near watersheds.
Meanwhile, the areas of Pengandonan, Semidang Aji, West Baturaja, East Baturaja, and Ulu Ogan sub-districts, said Gunalfi, are prone to landslides during the rainy season.
Gunalfi said the installation of early warning signs was intended to increase residents' vigilance against the possibility of natural disasters.
